Shipping Insurance is a Scam

Primary tabs

I think it is funny how all these shipping companies offer insurance as something you can upgrade to. Just in case you're not sure if they can perform on what you're paying for they offer you the ability to insure their performance. Sounds like BS to me.

This makes no sense as you wouldn't be giving these guys business in the first place if you didn't think your package was going to get where it needed to go. But now they offer you insurance, as if they're going to mess up? Well, wouldn't you go with a shipping company that doesn't mess up then? How hard is it to ship a package? That's what you're paid to do. Why do I need to pay more for you to do your job the right way?

Maybe other businesses should start offering insurance for their services as well. Not sure if your bags are going to break when walking outside of the grocery store? Now you can get bag insurance. Not sure if the Internet is going to be up tomorrow? Get Internet insurance. Not sure if your favorite restaurant is going to serve fresh food? Get food insurance. There are a number of places that should be offering insurance in case they mess up!

Insuring failure and mediocre service is a great way to show that you're a true American business. It's also a nice way to make a couple bucks while lowering your quality of service. I'm going to start offering banned in Google insurance for clients so they can pay me a nice little retainer for keeping them live in Google. Fear and money, where have I seen this before? Thanks for the revenue tips FedEx, UPS and USPS.
