"It is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely uneducated."
All too often I hear people wanting to change the world and see people trying to change the world. While I appreciate the goal and admire the courage, I think it may be missing the mark.
I hear this saying all the time from people of all walks of life, even people I especially admire. Usually I'll hear it during some calamity or some bad news that just doesn't sit well with the person. The government may pass another law that they don't agree with and then people will be up in arms about this being the worst time in history. We will hear how never before have we had such little freedom or so much
<insert complaint here>.
We've heard it over and over again. We're somehow in the one time in history that happens to suck and is unlike all others. Religion tells us we've been here at least 6,000 years, science tells us we've been here 200,000 years or so and yet we have somehow managed to find the 1 time in history which is most important and which everything hinges on.
I'm tired of hearing that everything is at stake and that we have to save the world.
This is what small picture people say.
This is what people say who are caught looking at the smaller details of life and not looking at the bigger picture. This is what people say who are living in fear and not living in love. When you're ignorant and not understanding of the situation it becomes a lot easier to become fearful and to blind yourself to reality. And when you double down by focusing on a small piece of a painting you may miss the entire painting which can be seen by simply taking a few steps back.
A while back I was listening to a terrific book from Ester and Jerry (Abraham) Hicks called, "Ask and It Is Given". I remember it in clear detail even though it was probably 10 years ago. I was at the gym working out listening to my audiobook, as I often do, when the book said something that just totally hit me and made me have to stop and think about what I just heard as I listened to it over again. I knew that what I just came across was life changing and conflicted with what I currently believed. I instantly knew that what I came across was the higher interpretation of this life.
The passage was this:
You Did Not Come to Fix a Broken World
As Non-Physical Source Energy expressing through your physical experience, your physical experience is truly the Leading Edge of thought. And as you are fine-tuning your creative experience, you are taking thought beyond that which it has ever been before.
As you enthusiastically made the decision to come into this physical body and create in this way, you understood, from your Non-Physical vantage point, that this physical world was not broken and in need of repair—and you did not come forth to fix it. You saw this physical world as a creative environment in which you, and everyone else, could express yourselves creatively—you did not come forth to try to get others to stop doing what they are doing and do something else. You came forth understanding the value in the contrast, and the balance in the variety.
Every physical Being on your planet is your partner in co-creation, and if you would accept that and appreciate the diversity of beliefs and desires—all of you would have more expansive, satisfying, and fulfilling experiences.
This quote goes counter to so many religious, political and cultural beliefs that people hold. And if you're not open to spiritual concepts then this may go completely over your head and be dismissed as BS. This quote really takes a step back and looks at life from a big picture perspective. This quote transcends the material, one life world that so many of us limit ourselves to and looks at it from a much broader perspective.
Now take this thinking and apply it to your life. Your life isn't so much about others as it is yourself. Yes, of course I get helping others and being selfless and all that beginner stuff. But now let's look a step further. Now let's look at it from a larger perspective. You are here for a personal experience. You came here as you, not as someone else. You came here in your unique experience, not someone else's. You chose where you are for very specific reasons of growth, maturity and most of all the wonderful experience of expanding your consciousness by unfolding it.
This coincides explicitly with many of the other topics I talk about such as you always having the choice and complete power over how you interpret any event. Nothing has to affect you unless you allow it to, not even the world.
This life is like a video game, the external environment is simply one of many possible external environments you may play in. This isn't the only environment. This isn't the only situation. This isn't the only hardship. And this isn't the only life. It's fun when it's a video game, but when it's real life we don't like challenges.
Look, I'm not saying not to focus on the physical world or to just sit back and do nothing. I'm saying to not let it negatively effect you. This is an experience ground. We're here to evolve, but we don't have to panic every time something doesn't go our way. Understand the bigger picture. Yes it sucks, but if it negatively affects you then you don't yet have power over it.
If you're fearful of the world being destroyed by greedy corporations or taken over by evil people then you're missing the point. It's not about saving the world. Yes, I get the small level stuff and taking care of the environment and all. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about from a higher level. From a higher level this world is an environment that we can work within. There are billions of galaxies and many densities. There are an infinite number of ways and circumstances to incarnate into. There isn't only 1 single, sole Earth to incarnate on. There isn't only 1 world to live on that we must perpetually live in fear on.
George Carlin said it best:
The planet is fine. Compared to the people, the planet is doing great. Been here four and a half billion years. Did you ever think about the arithmetic? The planet has been here four and a half billion years. We've been here, what, a hundred thousand? Maybe two hundred thousand? And we've only been engaged in heavy industry for a little over two hundred years. Two hundred years versus four and a half billion. And we have the CONCEIT to think that somehow we're a threat? That somehow we're gonna put in jeopardy this beautiful little blue-green ball that's just a-floatin' around the sun?
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!
This is a beautiful quote because it's true. Once again we get so caught up in our personal, limited and narrow little details and lose sight of the big picture. This world isn't going anywhere. It's here for us to change ourselves.
Everyone believes that they have the truth and that if everyone else doesn't believe exactly like they do then others are wrong. We see this with Christians who go out and evangelize the gospel. I think this whole push to make everyone think like us stems from Abrahamic, Western religions. They're all about making converts out of other people because of course they're right and everyone else is wrong.
If we happen to change the minds of everyone on the world to our way of thinking in 100 years or so we will have a whole new set of players on the world who think differently again. You can't make everyone think the same way and it's a terrible idea to think that. We want diversity. We want difference of opinion. When people think differently they create contrast which creates new ideas and opportunities. If we always thought the same we would never advance. Again:
If we always thought the same as we used to think we would never advance.
We advance through adversity, contrast and new experiences. We need people to be different to see new perspectives and data. That's all there is to it. Yes, of course it can be uncomfortable. Yes, of course it may not always be fun. We need to change the way we view this to make it fun. From the bigger picture this is all just a fun game of experiences, some terrifying and emotionally intense. Welcome to contrast on Planet Earth ?.
We really need to step back and view this life from a more accurate viewpoint. There is a much bigger picture going on. We have the ability to choose how we react to the world. And because of this it doesn't matter what is going on. There is always something to learn and there is always a valuable choice to make.
If we live many lives then if this world gets destroyed so what? If we live many lives and this world succeeds so what? What does that even mean? It isn't about changing this world. We chose to be in this world at this time with the constraints it presents to us. If this world was super easy with no challenges or contrast we probably wouldn't be here in the first place. If we were to remove all pain or evil how would we know pleasure or good? We are looking at this in a much too limiting way.
Appreciate the current moment we are living in and work within your ability to gain value from it. That's what we have power over and that's what we have created for ourselves. I leave you with this beautiful quote:
Spiritual, Fear, Materialism, The Small Picture, THE END IS NEAR!, OMFG SELL!!, Everything hinges on this!!, Our Last Chance!!
"There was nothing in your plan about being here that included struggle or hardship. You did not believe that you were coming into physical form to right past wrongs, or to fix a broken world, or even to evolve (in the sense that you were currently lacking in something). Instead, you knew this physical experience would be an environment that would provide a balance of contrast from which you would personally make increasingly improved choices that would add to your own expansion as well as to the collective expansion of All-That-Is. You knew that this world of contrast would induce in you the expansion that literally puts the Eternalness into Eternity; and your appreciation for the contrasting environment on planet Earth was enormous, for you understood that contrast is the basis of expansion, and that the expansion would be joyous—and here you are."
